DRY BRUSH PAINTING TECHNIQUE

Dry brush painting is a special technique where almost no water is used. Take a paper and draw anything you like, with pencil. Then take a water colour brush. Wet the brush with water and then press a tissue paper over it and squeeze out the excess water. Then load colour into the brush and put strokes on the drawing.

The colour effect takes a dry look and the strokes of the brush hair remains visible. Base colour and highlight both are done in the same process.Wash out the brush and then again take the second colour. Here is an example of dry brush painting. You can observe minutely how the thing is done and try it yourself at home .

Beautiful pictures and portraits are done using this technique. Always load your brush with a minimum amount of colour. Don't overload your brush with too much raw colour. You can load one brush with two colours at the same time. The technique needs care and intelligent handling of colour and brush.
