MY DARJEELING VISIT (1997)
I went to North Bengal, Shiliguri , to attend my uncle's marriage in 1997. I went with my Grandmother Komola Gupta and Dipali Sengupta, Uncle Agradut Gupta , Aunty Shuvra Gupta and cousin Debraj Gupta. My dearest teddy bear Atoshi was always with me.This photograph is taken on Darjeeling mall. We stayed there and enjoyed my uncle's marriage in a Christian community. For one day we went to visit Darjeeling. It was summer so we missed the chance to enjoy Snow there. It was my first time visit to hills,so I was thrilled. My cousin Debraj and me rode on horseback and walked through the mall. There we also visited The temple of MAHAKAL.My grandma Dipali Sengupta was a Die hard fan of SUCHITRA SEN,She was telling me that The Shooting of the film FARIYAD had been done in that place. She was happy to visit the temple. My grandmother Komola Gupta, though aged ,had full energy to climb the hills all time .The clouds were within our reach, it so cool like ice and a dreamy atmosphere prevailed all over the area.
My uncle Chiranjeev Chatterjee was engaged to Runa Shikari. The marriage ceremony was to be performed at day time and the party also. This was the rules of their community.
My Aunty took a sudden decision to pay a visit to Darjeeling. We got clothed in winter costumes and went there through a bus.
It was a speech less experience to go through the roads that surrounds the hill. The journey was risky no doubt,it felt like a real life adventure while going across the hills.
After reaching there first we went to mal and MAHAKAL TEMPLE,as I told before; then we visited the Zoo where we saw wild Tigers and Bisons and other animals.
We visited Tenjing Norgay museum where the memories of EVEREST Adventure were collected and displayed. We saw the venue where Tenjing sat to take rest while venturing to reach EVEREST PICK .We viewed Kanchan jangha and Tiger hill obviously but couldn't watch the Sunrise because it was day time.
It was a short trip,so we returned in the evening. The hilly villages and the small huts were lit up like play house all over the hills.
My cousin Debraj and I enjoyed the most and my doll Atoshi became the eye witness of every experience we had there.
At night we returned to Shiliguri Town with lots of memories collected in mind that's unforgettable.
